The White Lion - ASHOVER

White Lion at Ashover White Lion at Ashover

At White Lion House there is a carved white lion above the door and metal bracket high on the wall for the inn sign. The building dates from the seventeenth century and at the height of its popularity apparently gained a reputation for being the 'most rowdy hostelry in Ashover'.

The local custom was for miners to be paid at the end of a thirteen week working period which resulted in a weeks drinking, singing and fighting in the village.
