ASHTON ENGINE HOUSE
Ashton engine house
Sunk through overlying shale into the northern extremity of Dirtlow Rake, was being worked for lead in the early nineteenth century. Besides old mining dumps the engine house and square chimney still survive at Pindale Farm.
Well-preserved two-storey horizontal engine house and chimney. Little remains of the boiler house. The shaft has been sealed but the surrounding hillock remains with retaining walls in parts. A powder house is set behind to the east.
